Depression

Depression is More than just a Feeling
A large segment of patients that I see in my practice are experiencing depression, and I have worked extensively with adults and adolescents who are struggling. Depression is more than just “feeling down” or “being sad”. There is a hopelessness with depression, where it can feel like nothing will ever get better and nothing will change. That despair is one of the most difficult aspects of depression, because it makes it hard to imagine a future that is different from the present.
The impact of Depression is widespread
I recognize that depression can touch every part of your life and can make simple everyday tasks feel overwhelming or even impossible. Being in a depressed state affects your energy levels, concentration, motivation, sleep, memory, and can even alter your physical health, relationships, and your ability to work and be successful. Often, it can feel as though the joy and excitement you previously felt has been removed from your life. Trying to manage all of these difficult feelings on your own can leave you feeling disconnected and drained.

You are not alone
Depression does a good job of convincing you that nobody will be able to understand what you are going through. When you feel like you are misunderstood and you’re alone with your pain, you feel even worse. The cycle of depression is extremely difficult to break without getting support.

I bring a deep understanding of how painful, debilitating and complex it can be to feel weighed down with depression. I have patience and abundant compassion for what you are experiencing. I know that having support can be the first step towards feeling more hopeful and reconnecting with yourself.
An Approach that Fits you
Feeling depressed looks different for each person. Therefore, every individual that I see requires a unique type of treatment tailored to the symptoms you are having and the level of distress they are causing you. I strive to create a flexible environment where I adapt my approach based on what works best for you. I strive to stay deeply attuned to what you are experiencing, as I believe that feeling better is dependent upon feeling safe, seen and validated.

“Try imagining a place where
it’s always safe and warm.
Come in, she said I’ll give you
shelter from the storm.”
